The Destruction Department by Pigdog is one of the finest examples of the classic tone bender circuit you’ll ever hear. Modified for extra tone shaping, this pedal delivers all the classic vintage fuzz tones and beyond. The circuit is based on the early seventies MKIV Tone Bender (and more than just a nod to the 60’s Buzzaround), but the tone section is expanded for some truly earth shaking fuzz.
PIGDOG:
"Transistors are a trio of new old stock 1960’s Black glass Mullard/Phillips OC75’s, selection of which I have paid particular attention to. High gain fuzz if you want it with an especially low signal to noise ratio. I could have built these on a circuit or vero-board, but no. Why make things easy for yourself when you can pull all the stops out? So, tag-board construction and the very best of components had to be the way and, as such, this pedal should be around for the next apocalypse. Some of you may remember the Last Rites prototypes that I built a little while back. This is a similar build with the aforementioned ‘improvements’. I have had a lot of MKIV Tone Benders over the years, but one of them in particular was a little bit more special than the others. The tuning and transistor selection is based upon that very unit, just that Destruction Department pushes the envelope. Components: Capacitors from Vishay, Wima and Iskra. Resistors are 1/2w carbon composites. Cliff Jack sockets etc. Professionally finished in a high gloss dark blue semi-transparent metallic and screen printed in gold. Power is via 9VDC socket or PP3 battery (supplied). Bright LED with red lens. Mechanical true bypass switching."
