Check out this 1969 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop from Kalamazoo, Michigan, from the model’s first year of production. It has the late-1969 transitional features collectors look for: the small “mosquito bite” volute, no “Made in USA” stamp on the back of the headstock, and the pancake body construction introduced during 1969.
The original goldtop finish has aged well, with checking across the guitar that catches the light. There’s honest play wear throughout. This guitar has been played and enjoyed, and it looks and feels the part.
The electronics are original. Both Pat. No. stickered mini humbuckers are in place, with original pots. Many first-year Deluxes had their minis swapped for P-90s or full-size humbuckers over the years, so a ‘69 with its factory electronics intact is increasingly hard to find.
Non-original items and condition notes:
- Knobs replaced with speed knobs. Original-style gold top-hats are not included.
- No pickguard. Control planel has been replaced with a white one
- Extra strap-button hole on the back of the body, from where the strap pin was moved.
- Non-original hardshell case.
- Play wear and finish checking as shown in photos.
- No breaks or headstock repairs
