1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard — “Good Wood Era” Player
A strong, well-played example from the early ’90s “good wood” period, this 1992 Gibson Les Paul Standard delivers everything players look for in these guitars — depth, sustain, and a broken-in feel that only comes from decades of real use.
Built during a highly regarded era for Gibson, this guitar features a solid mahogany body with a carved maple top, producing the classic Les Paul voice: warm, full low end, pronounced mids, and a smooth, singing top end. There’s a weight and immediacy to the note that feels right under the hands, with strong sustain and a lively acoustic response.
The neck has a comfortable medium profile (.807″ at the 1st fret, .971″ at the 12th), offering an easy, familiar feel without being overly slim. At 9.7 lbs, it sits in traditional Les Paul territory, contributing to its tonal authority and sustain.
This guitar has been owned and used by a local session player since the 1990s and clearly served as a working instrument. It shows honest cosmetic wear throughout — surface scratches, dings, and finish wear consistent with decades of regular use. The wear is purely cosmetic and reflects a guitar that’s been played, not stored, resulting in a naturally broken-in feel. Structurally, it remains solid: the neck is straight, the frets have plenty of life remaining, and it plays cleanly up and down the board.
Electronics have been upgraded with a Seymour Duncan bridge pickup and DiMarzio neck pickup, offering a versatile range of tones while staying grounded in classic Les Paul character — from articulate cleans to saturated, harmonically rich overdrive.
The guitar is otherwise largely original, with the exception of upgraded Gotoh tuners for improved tuning stability.
Early ’90s Les Paul Standards continue to gain appreciation among players for their solid construction, quality tonewoods, and dependable performance — offering a compelling alternative to both modern production models and increasingly expensive vintage examples.
