Here’s a really special example of one of Fender’s most beloved small amps: a 1966 Fender Princeton, remarkably clean and retaining its original transformers, cabinet, cosmetics, and overall character.
The Princeton has always been one of Fender’s great small amps. The simple circuit, 6V6 power section, and 10″ speaker give these amps a beautiful combination of warmth, touch sensitivity, compression, and punch. They’re fantastic with everything from a Telecaster or Stratocaster to humbucker-equipped guitars, and they’re equally at home in the studio, at home, or on a small stage.
This example is especially clean and presents exceptionally well for an amp approaching 60 years old. The original transformers are intact, with codes 606-6-18 and 606-6-14, consistent with 1966 production.
The amp has received the maintenance you’d want from a vintage amplifier that is going to be played. The electrolytic capacitors and several resistors were replaced as needed, bringing the circuit back to reliable working condition while keeping the amp’s original character intact. A modern 3-prong power cord has also been installed for safer everyday use. The original two-prong power cord is included with the amp for completeness.
These updates make this a particularly nice balance of originality and usability. It’s not a museum piece that needs to be treated like a fragile artifact—it’s a vintage Princeton that’s been properly serviced and is ready to be played.
Plugged in, it’s pure mid-’60s Fender. The clean tones have that unmistakable warmth and dimensionality, with plenty of headroom for a small amp. Turn it up and the 6V6 power section starts to compress and break up in that wonderfully musical way these amps are known for.
It’s a great recording amp, a fantastic home amp, and one of those pieces of vintage gear that can make even a simple guitar setup sound special.
